Second post on Differences and Similarities in Italy

I had the idea for this post some time ago, but had to remember to take my camera to get the photograph. You’ll understand better when you see the photo!

I think I read about this issue prior to my arrival in Naples, but I didn’t realize it was a common occurrence. I talk as though I’m a subject matter expert on Italy, although I’ve”seen” very little due to the Coronavirus

So here it is…..

I find this so odd…but it works perfectly fine! I guess that’s what really matters!

First post on Differences and Similarities in Italy

The first difference I noticed upon my arrival in Italy was last Saturday afternoon was in the hotel elevator. After I checked into my room and unloaded by bags, I needed to return the luggage cart to the lobby. I also thought I’d visit the Mini-Mart next door to purchase a snack to eat in my room.

Imagine my surprise when I exited the elevator on the first floor and was unfamiliar with the surroundings. Fortunately for me, a nice gentleman was waiting for the elevator and able to clarify this extremely confusing situation. I was told to return to the elevator and press the “0.”

In appears in Italy the first floor of a building is NOT the first floor, it’s labeled as floor “0” or “GF” (Ground Floor), which I learned on Monday at my office.

Saturday adventures

So what do you do when you can’t leave your room due to lockdown thanks to the Coronavirus status in Italy? Well, you make the best of it!

I’m reading two fabulous books (if you’re curious: The Masterpiece by Francine Rivers – on my Kindle Fire, and The Litigators by John Grisham – thanks to the Library), continuing the research on places to visit in Italy (and beyond) and watching some American television shows. You’ll never guess what’s on today?

That’s right, Cinderella!

More posts to come soon!

Preview: I have been taking notes on the similarities and differences between America and Italy that I’ve encountered thus far. If you’re interested, check back soon.

Update on the Coronavirus in Italy

I’m certain you’re aware of the situation in Italy concerning the Coronavirus. It’s true, we’re on “lock down,” but basically, for adults, it affects locations and events where large numbers of individuals gather after working hours. We are allowed to go to and from work, but if we’re stopped by the police we’re required to self-certify, in writing, the purpose of our travel. I thought you might like to see a copy of the form we’re required to provide if requested.

Personal Declaration

Other than being isolated after work, I’m truly enjoying this opportunity. I haven’t had a chance to experience”Italy” yet, but the people I’ve met in, out, and around my office have been extremely kind and welcoming (both Italian and American). I am truly blessed and thankful!
